History of Agung Rai Museum of Art

The Indonesian Government inaugurated the Agung Rai Museum of Art (Arma Museum) on June 9, 1996. Dr Ing. Such sentiments are shared by the museum's founder and namesake, art collector and writer Wardiman Djojonegoro, who also advocated for preserving and conserving art and literature in Bali. This gallery showcases a stunning collection of art, such as Balinese, Javanese, or even foreign works of art, and is one of the most gorgeous places to see in Bali. The museum consists of two buildings, Bale Daja (north building) and Bale Dauh (south building), which are designed with traditional Balinese architecture. The Agung Rai Museum today has a collection of nineteenth-century paintings, Kamasan paintings and Batuan-style works from the 1930s and 40s. The museum also has what they call a "school", which is ideal for Balinese to learn and improve their traditional dancing skills. Balinese conventional dance performances also entertain visitors to this place.

Entrance to the museum is available daily for an amount of 100,000 IDR (Rs. 535) between 9 am and 6 pm. Bali Museum Balinese Dance Time: Monday to Friday, 3 pm – 5 pm, Saturday & Sunday, 10:30 am – 12 pm.
